I think I speak for a lot of subscribers when I say I'd happily carry on paying a monthly subscription fee as you're building towards something bigger. If there's an option to opt-in for payment, consider mine as the first.
Alex, I’ve loved your newsletters so much here so you’ll definitely be missed. But sounds like you’re making the right decision and wishing you all the best on your next endeavours!
‘The parts of my book that got me truly excited were connecting the dots between fashion and what’s happening in the rest of the world.’ - very excited to read more of that ♥️
Really connect with this! My girlfriend and I run a small swimwear brand (COOTS London) as well as having full time jobs. What with creating content, email marketing, PR, updating the website etc. it's proper hard to find the head space to have inspiration for the fun part - actually designing swimwear. Think we needed to read this to realise it's nearly impossible to do it all without something suffering and give ourselves the permission to step away from some aspects for awhile (Instagram we are looking at you) to focus on other things. Looking forward to seeing what you work on - nice one!
Best of luck to you — I love your writing and completely empathize with needing to step away from this to write a book (as I am currently writing my first and on a deadline), and explore bigger topics.
Good luck Alec. And thanks for being so honest here. As a subscriber I’m in it for the long term and would be happy to keep paying this subscription. Wishing you all the best
Happy to read that you’re taking this step away to take an even bigger step forward- and I’m so eager to read the next book and your next post in 2025 (I’ll miss your voice in the meantime!)
A refreshingly, honest newsletter, I appreciate your honesty. Wish you the best of luck in your endeavours and look forward to hearing more from you in 2025. Thank you!
I was wondering the other day how you combine it all. We need mental space to write; I recognise it in myself. If there are too many balls to hold up, the writing fails. Or very slowly. Take the time you need and I'm already looking forward to the ‘relaunch’ and your new book.
We've been caught in this escalating cycle - from Instagram's daily posts to TikTok's endless scroll to Substack's newsletter pressure. While one meaningful article every month or even every quarter that reflects genuine reflection and critical thinking is worth far more than a daily stream of half-formed thoughts. Where is the space to observe and process the world around us? To think and let ideas mature? Your talent lies in your critical perspective and careful analysis. That kind of insight can't be rushed or manufactured on demand.

Appreciate your honesty, transparency and vulnerability. Can’t wait to see what you get up to.
